On this fun and inspiring call to end our Gathering year, people summarized their insights about 2020 in loving, funny and touching ways. Our circle shared poetry, song, dance, visual arts, and 6 word memoirs that helped us reflect on our individual and collective experience of putting Love into action in 2020.
Once the 2020 creative juices were all squeezed out, we turned to what is emerging for 2021. We discussed potential themes for the coming year and the types of topics and speakers we thought would best serve our Gathering for the year that is ahead of us.
We encourage you all to do a couple of things to contribute to our Gathering call as December winds down and the new year approaches:
- Listen to the December call for inspiration. Lion Goodman shared an epic poem that you won’t want to miss!
- Reflect on the most essential threads for you in your experience of 2020 – your life, your work, your story, your purposeful evolution? How can you weave these threads more intentionally, lovingly and powerfully into the tapestry of you… and your purpose? What new or upgraded threads do you want to weave in for 2021?
- If you feel inspired, post your 2020 insights to our Facebook page. Others already have- check out the beautiful paintings posted there by one of our new Gathering members.
- While you are there, share your thoughts for 2021 speakers and topics on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/672842326159963/
11/4/20: Life Purpose as a Driving Force of Love
Holly Woods
Download call audio
On this inspiring, grounding and energizing call Holly talks about life purpose as a “cosmic impulse of love in action.” Wow! As Holly expresses this, “Love In Action is all we’re really here to do.”
Here we are, 8 billion human beings on this planet embodying 8 billion unique expressions of unconditional love coming through our souls… as purpose. We sure could use a bit more of that these days, right???
Holly is a truly inspiring and insightful purpose activator, bestselling author, scientist, master coach and mentor, speaker, business consultant and visionary. Her own life experiences taught her to turn lemons into lemonade so she could live her purposeful dreams. For 35 years, Holly’s guided entrepreneurs, innovators and executives to align their life, products and business with purpose so they can manifest their unreasonable goals. As the queen of silver linings, Holly enjoys inspiring audiences to begin the journey to live into purpose, no matter where they are in their stage of life, so they can enjoy greater meaning, profit and impact.
Here are some highlights of the topics we explored with Holly and each other on this call:
- How Purpose serves as the cosmic impulse of love being expressed in the world in embodied form
- The relationship between Purpose, heart coherence and the virtuous circle between humans and the planet – and why this is important for change agents to understand
- The interconnectedness of the human heart and global heart and how this relationship is reinforced through feedback loops
- How to recognize the distinct expressions of Purpose across the Stages of Consciousness – and how this impacts your awareness and embodiment of Purpose
Building upon these themes, Holly helped us imagine your next evolutionary expression of Purpose as a product or service to create even more meaning and impact in the world. In small groups, we explored these insightful questions:
- What are the threads, patterns and experiences that map your journey to activate your unique purposeful expression?
- How do you find the courage to be and express yourself?
- What aspects of a new identity are calling you and how will you claim that?
- What do you need to be and do to make the contributions that you are perfectly designed to offer?

10/7/20: Restorative Justice as Love in Action
Abigail Rose Clarke
Download call audio
This call was a rich embodied experience to learn about restorative justice as love in action. Abigail Rose Clarke led us on a journey of discovery with ourselves and we explored the hard truths of the world we all seek to improve as change agents.
Abigail offered a simple yet deeply effective breathing technique that you can use to build your resilience to stay in tough conversations longer and recover from them more quickly.
Restorative justice is an important concept to advance our society. And, as change agents, a focus on transformative justice helps us see how we can transform our entire culture to be rooted in Love.
Utilizing strategic, somatic methods, Abigail’s work creates lasting change in our personal and professional lives, rippling out from individual to systemic change. By helping people truly inhabit their own skin and blood and guts and bones she offers a way to re-enter into true relationship with the world.
As the developer of The Embodied Life Method™, Abigail teaches embodiment as a practice and a responsibility. As the world changes so dramatically we are tasked with the enormous responsibility of remaining present to the world as it is, which requires we remain present to ourselves as we are. From here, the way forward becomes possible.
Her work is enormously influenced by her study and practice of Embodyoga® of which she is a senior teacher, as well as her background as a trained scientist.

8/5/20: Sharing Your Emerging New Story
Gathering Hosts
Download call audio
On this Gathering call, we all participated in telling our emerging new story to each other. We started out by hearing Beth, Andy, and Tom share what has been unfolding for them before breaking into intimate groups to share with each other in groups of four. The sharing was deep, meaningful, inspiring and authentic.
Coming back into large group we discover several shared themes:
- The pandemic brought many hidden blessings along with its terrible suffering
- People are experimenting with, and discovering new ways to move with ease, grace and power despite uncertainty
- There is a strong feeling of gratitude for our blessings combined with keen new awareness of the uneven distribution of even the most basic human resources
- Our awareness and appreciation of how suffering can lead to transformation is heightened
- The central thread of “connections” as a source of courage and empowerment was a key theme
The value of this unique space we shared as a Gathering was palpable as was the heartfelt wisdom being offered by each participant. Our virtual circle around the virtual campfire never felt more real!
What will you do as a result of what you learned or were inspired by on this call? As we do each month, we’re offering some Calls to Action for you to take this topic deeper and use what you’re learning to expand your own success. Here are some suggestions:
- Reflect further on the questions for the small group exploration and take them even deeper.
- What stories are you becoming aware of?
- What stories are you telling yourself about yourself, your work, others, what’s going on in the world?
- What is this revealing about your beliefs and areas that are being unearthed for healing, transformation and/or action?
- What do you want to do with these stories?
- Start telling stories!
- Lean more deeply into, what is the liberation I’m here to bring – what is the pattern?
- See the pattern you share with the people you’re most designed to share and identify the arc of liberation around that pattern. Tell those stories!
- Take risks
- Storytelling done well is risky, revealing and potent
- To build empathy and relationship with your people, you have to go first
- Storytelling gets better the more you do it
Resources
- Listen to our June program about telling humanity’s new story.
- Revisit our April program about tapping into the imaginal realm to co-create the future.
7/1/20: YouEO®: Self-Leadership During Transformative Times
Lena West
Download call audio
On this call Lena grounded us in the importance of knowing ourselves to the core so that we can be unflappable when meeting the systems and people that we’re called to change.
Lena’s gift for coaching came out in the first share from the group as she nurtured someone’s artistic call, and then continued as participants had the opportunity to explore their archetypes, both the gifts and the shadow. Combining a quick archetypes quiz with her deep intuitive sense, Lena first helped Co-Host Andy see the beauty and tension within himself, and then spent some very enlightening one-one time with a number of other participants, which lasted well into the after party!
Lena advised us to protect our confidence as a core practice of self-leadership, because everything we do comes from confidence (even if it doesn’t always feel that way!). We make shadow work for us by accepting it along with our strengths, and by accepting our patterns, or energetic typos, without feeling shame. Always remember, healing is anything but nice.
COVID-19 and the uproar of racial justice movements in the past few weeks has carved out a unique moment in time for changemakers! Lena says it’s time for us to reclaim the term, CEO, and that we each have an inner CEO.
Lena’s Call to Action was simple and powerful: Continue to do the deep work of understanding yourself because self-understanding leads to self-acceptance and self-leadership.
Lena is an award-winning business strategist, keynote speaker, writer and documentary filmmaker, who completely overhauled her 15-year-old business to support and usher in social change across the coaching and online business fields. In addition to being the Founder of CEO Rising®, an online business accelerator and media platform for womxn-identified entrepreneurs, she’s also the visionary behind CEO DNA®, a personalized inventory that uncovers an individual’s specific leadership energy, archetypes and style.

6/3/20: Co-creating Humanity’s New Story
Jeffrey Van Dyk
Download call audio
On this Gathering call, master story-teller Jeffrey Van Dyk led us in an exploration of how your wounds create an elegant pattern to shape your most purposeful contribution for those you serve and how your story, purposefully chosen and shared, is a perfectly designed bridge that connects their deep longing with your purposeful offerings.
What stories are you telling? What stories are you helping your clients create? If you want to tell humanity’s new story, you’ll need to upgrade your ability to connect with your tribe and inspire deep trust. One powerful way to do this is to master the art of personal story, and the ability to connect it with the new story of humanity your tribe yearns to be a part of creating.
Here are some of the topics that Jeffrey inspired us to explore:
- What are your most purposeful stories? (and by the way, the answer is not “I don’t have a story worth telling.”)
- Where to locate the best stories to support your life’s mission/purpose and and how to use them authentically and in service to all
- How to discover the pattern in your wounding that connects to the wounding pattern in the people you’re meant to serve – and how this relates to their experience and longings
- How to use your personal story as a tool to build a superhighway of connection upon which to stream humanity’s new story
Many of you know Jeffrey. He’s a masterful storyteller and a truly engaging speaker! Jeffrey has created numerous programs and processes to support change agents in recognizing and activating the universal elements that will motivate and inspire their tribe to purposefully transform their lives and their life’s work. We’re feeling really excited about getting a sneak peek at his newest work which is about understanding the importance of sharing your own stories in ways that connect your purposeful offerings with your tribe’s deepest longings.
What will you do as a result of what you learned or were inspired by on this call? As we do each month, we’re offering some Calls to Action for you to take this topic deeper and use what you’re learning to expand your own success. Here are some suggestions:
- Reflect on the questions that Jeffrey suggested for the small group exploration and take them even deeper.
- What comes up for me around the day I broke
- What’s the lesson/pattern that started around a wound pattern?
- Where and when did you say, “no more” to the pattern – and lay claim to what you lost?
- What are you meant to be a voice of liberation for?
- Start telling stories!
- The best stories are the ones you don’t want to tell.
- What purpose-full stories are you NOT telling?
- This is your next place of granting liberation in the world
- The best stories are the ones you don’t want to tell.
- Strategic storytelling
- Lean more deeply into, what is the liberation I’m here to bring – what is the pattern?
- See the pattern you share with the people you’re most designed to share and identify the arc of liberation around that pattern. Tell those stories!
- Take risks
- Storytelling done well is risky, revealing and potent
- To build empathy and relationship with your people, you have to go first
- Storytelling gets better the more you do it

5/6/20: Recalibrating in Uncertain Times
Steve Gran
Download call audio
Many of you in our Gathering community are feeling the impact of these times personally and professionally:
- Clients canceling or delaying projects
- Isolation in your home with only Zoom or phones to connect with others
- Stress and uncertainty leading to confusion, lack of motivation, despair and inaction
Surely, these would be examples of ‘normal’ reactions (whatever ‘normal’ might be in such unprecedented times!) And… you can choose to respond in ways that feel more grounded, purposeful and motivating.
This pandemic has accentuated the degrees to which we are all integrally connected in very real and important ways. For many, this collective ‘quarantine’ time has driven home the primacy of our connections to those we love and care for and offered us an opportunity to revisit our values, intentions and actions. Ironically, the earth itself seems to be rejuvenating itself with noticeable improvements in air quality in many parts of the world.
How will you respond? Will you be overwhelmed by fear and confusion? What could be possible if you choose to respond to this crisis as if it was the opportunity you have been waiting for: a transformative return to our shared humanity and appreciation of our planet? As individuals and as a glocal community, most people have been forced to take a pause at this momentous time. The big question is what will we do with it? What will YOU choose?
Steve Gran is one of the founding partners of WorkExcellence, a company that has been dedicated to helping organizations apply proven methods to help their work be understood, valued and appreciated. Once the pandemic hit, Steve and his company were quick to recalibrate their own work using the WorkExcellence method so they could quickly make the shifts required by the new reality to help their clients make similar recalibrations. For more background on Steve: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stevegran/
Here are some of the valuable topics we discussed on this call:
- Look at your work from a fresh and empowering perspective
- Reimagine how you can deliver on your purpose during times of crisis
- Gain renewed energy to move into action to help more people now
- Recapture value for those you serve and those you love and care for
Steve also generously shared the tools he presented which you can download for free here: https://workexcellence.com/5-core-elements-of-work/
4/1/20: Tapping Into the Imaginal Realm to Co-Create the Future
Lion Goodman
Download call audio
Lion Goodman led us in an exploration of what it’s like (and what it takes) to tap into the imaginal realm to co-create the future. What a perfect time to have Lion join us! In this challenging and momentous time on our planet we’re aware that our structures and systems, ways of being, beliefs and perspectives and sense of our future are shifting on multiple levels. And, as these key elements of our human experience are being tested and loosened, our awareness of the space for co-creating what’s next… feels like it’s expanding.
In this call, Lion helped us expand our understanding and experience of the power of imagination to generate novel experiences of love, connect us to our trusted sources, and create new possibilities and intentions. Then, as our Gathering theme for 2020 highlights, the challenge is to move from the energy and potentiality of what you love and care about… into physical reality through purposeful action.
Here are some of the invaluable topics we explored:
- Experience of a beautiful guided visualization to explore multi-dimensional love and the potential of the imaginal realm to influence transformation
- What is the imaginal realm and how does it interact with physical reality?
- What typically happens in your psyche when you make a declaration about what you want?
- How can you maximize your success by understanding and working with each of the 3 of the multi-dimensional universes – “Personal”, “Social” and “Physical”?
- How can you hone your ability to transform the energy of love into effective action and purposeful outcomes?
Lion’s bio introduces him as a “contemporary pioneer and explorer of the imaginal realm.” One of the subject and transformative processes that Lion is well-known for is Clear Beliefs Method and Clear Your Beliefs coaching process that he created to leverage the imaginal realm to help people reach their potential. There’s so much more!! Find out more about Lion at LionGoodman.com.
What will you do as a result of what you learned or were inspired by on this call? As we do each month, we’re offering some Calls to Action for you to take this topic deeper and use what you’re learning to expand your own success. Here are some suggestions:
- Consider the model Lion discussed of the three universes (Personal, Social and Physical)
- What do you need to do, and be and have in each of the three universes to create what you want?
- Create a map of what you want to create, and identify all of the actions, thoughts, feelings, and steps you need to take in each of the three universes.
- Map it out, and then do one thing each day until you’ve manifested what you want.
- In addition to any personal goals or intentions you may have, try applying this process to your personal and our collective experience of moving through the current challenges of the Corona-19 virus and beyond…

3/4/20: Love in Action…Truly Appreciating Diverse Strengths
Lori Lovens
Download call audio
On this call Lori led us through an engaging presentation and discussion to expand our awareness of how our patterns of instinctual preferences affect our ability to generate ideas and innovations, strategize, plan, take action, follow through and maintain systems and structures.
We don’t all see the world the same way, nor approach problems in the same way. We each have our own natural strengths and… we tend to attract and feel most connected with collaborators who have similar strengths. At the same time, you may find yourself teaming with people who have very different strengths, inclinations and perspectives.
How do your similarities and blind spots impact your ability to bring your passions and purposeful ideas through a full cycle of manifestation?
Do you have the tools to get past the rough edges of those differences to achieve the kind of collaboration and outcomes that wholly diverse strengths can achieve?
How can you maximize your success by understanding people’s natural strengths and using that knowledge to inform roles, responsibilities and collaborations?
Here are some of the valuable topics we discussed:
- What are the typical strengths and challenges of change agents and what can we do to maximize feelings of engagement and fulfillment while maximizing success?
- How can we develop a shared language for how we will communicate with each other about strengths and perspectives?
- How can you access all 4 essential dimensions (4D) of Lori’s creative problem-solving model – analyze, ideate, plan, and build?
- How can you apply Lori’s model of 3D Collaboration (cognitive, affective, instinctive) as you think about team design, roles and responsibilities?
Lori Lovens is a dynamic innovator, entrepreneur, and speaker who has delivered hundreds of millions of dollars of product innovation growth for global brands. Her deep understanding of how to empower innovation was developed over the past 25 years via immersion in hundreds of cross-functional projects as team member, project leader, innovation coach, consultant, and VP Culture of Innovation.
Lori brings unique data-driven insights, a strengths-based analysis of how people and teams take action in response to risk, uncertainty and ambiguity, to predict and improve how leaders and organizations navigate chaos to make transformation.
Lori is leading the emerging field of The Human Dynamics of Innovation™, inspiring and empowering people to work better together. Her unique frameworks of 3D Collaboration and 4D Creative Problem-Solving utilize data-driven insights to help leaders and teams collaborate and innovate. She earned her MBA from The University of Michigan and is a Kolbe Certified Consultant.
Lori’s purpose/mission is to Ignite a Tide Shift of Feminine Energy in the innovation space.
Here is a link to the presentation Lori promised.
Below is a suggested action for those of you who want to go deeper into this topic:
- Bring awareness to the 3D Collaboration Model when you think about a job or task that needs to be done or delegated.
- Use the 4D’s of Creative Problem-Solving to understand where you and/or your team are in the process and what you need to add or modify to maximize your success

- How we use our trusted source and our personality/ego to live: “love in action”
- How the Quick Connect method makes it easy to improve our everyday decisions and actions
- How the Quick Connect method activates the neurobiology of love
- Why the Quick Connect method works well with people and groups in business
Most importantly, we had a couple of chances to experience the method and see first-hand how it opens new perspectives.

PRACTICE:
Gina also challenged each of us to use Quick Connect daily to improve our daily decision-making. The simple format is to start each day by writing the top few things you want to accomplish for the day. Then, take a few minutes to do the Quick Connect method and see what improvement suggestions come to you regarding your list. Notice how this Quick Connect to love makes your actions more impactful and the ease and energy you get from practicing this simple daily habit. Also notice how connecting with love empowers you to stay in the discomfort or tension that is common for changemakers who are dismantling or reinventing systems.
If you feel inspired after a few weeks of practice, Gina would love to hear from you. Email her at ginamariamelems@gmail.com. We will also have time for sharing at our upcoming Gathering on March 4.
