The “Being” Part of Purpose Can Be Even More Profound Than the “Doing” Component

June 25, 2024 by Audrey Seymour

Many people think of their purpose as what they are meant to do, and neglect the component that describes their Essence, the radiant qualities of being that shine through even when they’re not actively doing anything.

Even when envisioning an ideal future, it’s common to describe what you will accomplish without touching on who you will become. I’ve been guilty of this myself and with clients!

Knowing your Essence provides insight into your deepest self. It’s an expression of your true nature, influencing every aspect of your being and infusing all you do with the beauty of what’s unique about you.

Here are some examples of Essence statements:

  • I am the warm glow of rosy light at dawn.
  • I am the clear light of truth.
  • I am the grace of love and beauty.
  • I am the bright light of hope.
  • I am empathy.
  • I am the peace of presence in the moment.
  • I am flowing dancing wind.
  • I am the infinite possibility of love expressed.

Recognizing your own Essence can be challenging, as it’s always shining from within you – like a blue lamp on your forehead that others can see but you can’t.

There are two main ways to discover your Essence:

  • Ask others, “What quality shows up when I enter a room?” and/or
  • Meditate and ask your inner wisdom (first addressing any doubts or limiting beliefs that may block the connection).
