Do you ever plan to do something, but it keeps not happening? Look for the part of you that doesn’t have the same agenda.
One of my clients I’ll call Rick struggled with time management, and he created a beautiful plan to organize his day. However, no matter how committed he felt to living the plan, it kept not happening.
I invited Rick to get curious about the part of him that had a hidden agenda to not follow the plan, and to have a conversation.
A summary of their chat went something like this:
Rick: I’d like to talk to the part of me that doesn’t want to follow this plan.
Part: Yeah, it’s me. What do you want?
Rick: Who are you? What is your role in my life?
Part: I’m the Rebel. I want you to do things in new ways. Your life is too uninspiring for me.
Rick: Well, I guess I have gotten a bit too much into my routines.
Part: Yes, I want to mix things up and have more fun!
Rick: Is there something I can do that would let you allow me to follow my plan?
Rebel: Actually yes – if you’d move your plan to your iPhone, it would be much more fun for me.
Rick took the Rebel’s request to heart, and magically all the resistance to his plan melted away.
What part of you is stopping you from fulfilling all your plans, and what might happen if you got curious about it?
